OUTBOUND : My Experiences and Learning’s by Kratika saxena

The outbound organized by IWSB is an experience that I will carry with me throughout my life and this has a deep impact on my conceptualization and mindset. For me this is an experience that has changed my thinking and it has changed my view point about anything from now onwards. And the so called phrase ‘Know Thyself’ is very apt and has an idea behind it because we every skill and a great potential in ourselves, but what matters is that when and how we recognize this hidden and inherent set of skills in our own selves.

Right from the beginning, every activity that was done at outbound had some reason, for what it was executed. As I stepped out of the bus I came to realize that this trip is not fun and joy oriented in fact there is  going to be a lot of hardship and effort to be put in, which in turn would lend me some experience and learning as an offering. Every activity that I did at the outbound, requiring a particular skill whether that is fording, rafting, rappling, cultural night or some other one.  The skills required can be termed as physical, mental, dare, group and team skills and so on. However, before the completion of any activity I never had the faith in myself whether I have a particular skill for any activity. But this is what known as ‘Know Thyself’. I realized if I have trust and confidence in my own, I can do anything and everything. However a few of the activities required me to trust my mates and other group members.

I believe that every activity that I did at the outbound has somehow contributed to my thinking and reasoning. I was never such a good team member or a team leader. But this trip has created a sense of requisite of ability to work in a group and how I can work in a condition where I might have to suffer the egos of others. Anyways, I would say I have never learnt and experienced from such trans-cultural personalities and I’ve never spent 72 hours like this.

Outbound experience-by Megha Garg

Outbound to Padampuri –  Knowing Thyself.

From June 25 to June 27, 2010.

An outbound tour which I imagined before was different and the tour which we went was totally different. This was the outbound tour which was totally unimaginable. I had never been to such an energetic and enthusiastic tour till now in my life. A tour full of life made me realize my actual potential that what can I can do and what were my shortcomings. This was actually the first learning of mine about myself that I can do anything  , no matter what constrains are there. After this we proceeded for the adventures thing to happen. The most interesting part of the outbound was that we did not know previously what is going to be the next set of activity except the cultural night.

I had never been to such an enthralling and enthusiastic place before in my life. I had pushed my boundaries beyond my limits which previously I considered I can not do it. This trip made me realized my actual potential that what I can do and what I can not. Learning by doing was also an important point I gained from outbound. To sum up with the journey which made my inner soul awake that how I wasted all the years till now hiding behind the curtains of laziness’s and now I will surely make it a point to overcome this deficiency in the upcoming years.

The outbound experience…………….Rakesh Pandey

The outbound experience had a lot of aspects related to OB.

Combined football match: the football match was a complete surprise packages for me in this a boy and a girl was together tied through strings in the legs. Then the groups of two were divided into two teams my partner was Sumit. Now this made to understand that we both have to take care of each other. So i particularly learnt to cooperate along with the partner. Next we players in one team were striving hard to make goals on the opponents which resulted in creating an environment of team spirits which will lead to success of the team.

Relay race: we the twins were arranged in a group of four and we have to perform a relay race. I with Sumit came first in the first round when we started but our team came second last as that performance was not repeated by the other groups. This helped to lean that for any type of success it is important that every person performs his best.

C atching the tail: the students were divided into four groups in which two groups each to play against the other. The teams were arranged in a column and both had to move in a circle. Both the teams had to catch the other team’s tail. The team which catches the other tail will be the winner. I learnt that if we stay together in a team we will definitely achieve success.

River fording:  in this event we were given jackets for safety. The river was highly rocky and uneven in depth. The rocks at the bed were slippery and we had to walk very cautiously. We were advised to hold the hands of each other. It helped us to know that team is essential in sustaining ourselves in difficult situation.

Cliff jumping; in this activity we had to jump from 20 metres in to the water which was 25 metres in depth. The outcome that i learnt from this activity is to give the fear part from ourselves while executing something fear stops anyone to perform. Fear is the biggest d-motivating factor for an entrepreneur when he initiates his activities.

River rafting: in this two teams were made and there will be a rafting competition among them. Each team has to make its own raft. We had to design the shape of the raft and to allocate the group turn in order to help the team to win. This helped me to understand that it is very vital for any person to give 100% in order to enhance the team performance.

Rappling: This was an exciting event, which incorporated fear when i looked at it the first time. The learning i took from it was to be slow and steady as well as have patience while such difficult circumstances come in your way and you have to handle it to get it done.

Cross river: In this activity, the two top ends where tied through ropes joining the tops of a valley. Our waist was attached to a pulley which was further attached to the ropes. We have to cross from the main to the other end. Through this i learned that when we start any venture, we first are motivated but after sometime we get slowed and then again we have to gain the momentum to cross any situation.

The spider web: This event needed not only owns team cooperation but also from others to be equally benefited. There were blocks like webs made of streams and one had to use all the boxes from top to bottom. In this event one person has to be lifted from one side and without touching the strings of the blocks has to pass the other side. This game was a bit different as not only included a particular team but gave an insight where you understand various other factors to be considered to get the work done.

At the end of day one, we were told to organize a cultural programme at night on day two.

The Cultural Activity:

It was the eagerly awaited and got its ignition from 9:30 pm. It was a platform to showcase the talents and a place to express the feelings embedded. There was music, poems, dance, skits which resulted in laughter, tapping of feet’s and thrill. But it was the faculty programme which reflected the IWSB culture with the faculty members participating with students.

In the end the outbound session has a direct impact on the behaviour of each and every individual afterwards.

Outbound as a learning………….By Vipin Singh Aswal

outbound experience for three-day at Padmpuri(Bheemtal) was kind of learning experience which i never had throughout my life before .the enrichment I got from outbound trip is next to moksha where i learned while doing  things  ,the experience is so pragmatic  that we discover our new boundaries and there are no boundaries actually , a confidence and urge to do thing should be there towards any kind of situation of life, because where there is will there is way.

At outbound I learned through observation of human behaviour how people behave, react on situation, and how they offend and defend themselves according to issue, Learning is not attained by chance it must be sought for with ardour and attended to with diligence. There are few points to share with are:

Knowing myself:

The trip gave me a self-realization that what as an individual i am capable of and what are my strength and weakness, and how firmly i have to stand on ground to show myself as a different individual. The experience gave me a learning that before jumping on conclusion take time and know yourself what you are capable of. “Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang their except those that sang best”.

Culture:

As all of us people are from every part of India, a diverse background from Kashmir to Tamilnadu, Assam to Gujarat. And living with such a diverse culture is not a cake walk people have to change themselves at certain point of time to get adjusted. My experience was awesome i learned a lot about behaviour of different culture. And a trip made me understands how to stand among people and how to react and express you as a team member.

Leadership:

Leading a team is not a cake walk ,at times when I have to lead I used to keep myself a bay, because of fear or you can say because of  low confidence that I used to have, but after that trip of three days it gave me a level of confidence which ignited  a fire within me  to prove myself ,at many time I proved a bad leader but i discover there is some potential in myself as a leader and i learned that, success comes after failure and there is no harm in trying things ,we actually learning some thing from each of our mistakes. The people around me gave me lots of learning they way they are initiating as a leader and as an individual. The learning is Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”

Time management:

Time is equal opportunity employer and every human being has exactly the same no of hours and minute, rich people cannot buy more hours and scientists can’t invent new minute, and you cannot store time for next day. We learned how to manage time and what are the after effects of not being on time to several activities; every day we were there we have kept focus on time and time to complete the particular task. “Regret for wasted time is more wasted time”.

Challenging yourself:

Fear is enemy of every one and the one who overcome from fear is winner of life. I jumped from cliff into water which is30 feet high, did river crossing, and grappling which I never did it before and there are lots of people who gave me courage to do that. What i learned isCourage is the ladder on which all the other virtues mounted.

There are lots of thing which i learned like communication, coordination, strategy making and planning and be apart of team, I’ll be learning throughout my whole life from my own and others experiences because “learning is never-ending process the day learning ends the life also”

My experience at outbound

The outbound experience was a great one. Initially it was felt that the trip was not going to as exciting as it was. It was great fun and learning for us. I learnt great aspects of leadership, team work, time management, coordination etc. The 3 day trip was learning by doing. We were assigned different tasks and each gave us some learning or the other. I learnt that one should not make his inside feel about the task he can do or not, earlier we thought that we would not be able tasks like cliff jumping, cross river but after doing them it was great feeling that what was impossible it was easy on trying. One should not under estimate himself and should try the upcoming difficult in his life.

It was great 3 day trip , we went in different groups but returned as one unit. Made many new friends and got chance of interacting with them. Hope to get such educational and fun fill trips in the life.

What I Prateek Pandey erudite from Outbound

At last I am writing a blog about my outbound experiences.

Outbound was something which given our batch a new way of thinking. Outbound given me a physical as well mental pain but this pain is like a tough road which made me mentally stronger for future.

Outbound was an Eye-opener to me, it showed me how life is void without people, how much team is important for me as well as I am important for the team. Outbound gave me a lesson that I as a leader may be strong at my own points but if  my team doesn’t agree with me , then I can’t implement , So it taught me to be influential and gave me a lesson that team and a leader has to be satisfied with the same steps otherwise nothing can happen.

One thing more I learnt about teamwork, that being quick, fast and active myself isn’t going to work until I didn’t push my team first by motivating them, by giving them our support that we are there for them, giving them a feel that they are asset to the team, by tapping there shoulder when they achieved something .Take every part of effort from them to give 100% of a team.

Outbound also taught me an attitude of “never say never” and this feeling I felt when I was crossing a river, dealing with patience at the time of passing a marble from one bamboo to another and spider web, all these tasks gave me a chance to prove myself and I did prove myself because at that moment I felt a spirit in me that I can do it and as a result of it I did it.

In outbound I volunteered myself as a committee member of cultural fest and at that moment I interacted with each and every person in the camp whether it’s for only 5 minutes and i learnt that there’s lot to learn and I am too less in knowledge. There is a lot of potential in every one of us we just need to dig it out.

Outbound not only showed me a good image of mine, it showed my grey area of life too which I never bothered in my past life one of it was time management. Many drills were time taking and time bound, and i learnt that if you don’t do things on time, than there is no use of it. So I am working on it and trying to improve myself in this field. And at last removed a myth of mine of treating people by my own assumptions without knowing them. It gave me a point to think that before making any mind set for any individual I need to interact with him/her.

So there is a great Learning as well as one of the most adventurous trip of my life which was only of three days but these three days showed me a mirror and woke me up from a dream and gave me a reason to work on ME.

At last Outbound is very essential part of our overall development. I deeply my faculty of IWSB for taking us to this awesome trip. :-) :-P

Learning from outbound (Rustam)

Outbound was a wonderful fresh experience away from the usual things we did in our unusual world. What was thought to be a trip sort of a thing turned out to be a completely different exercise. But it was enjoying and full of learning trip. My learnings include

Leadership.

A team how so much good it be needs a good leader to control the team’s abilities and make full use of them. A good leader helps all the team members to contribute in the effort. He inserts discipline and leads by example. All these things were evident out there and were part of my learnings from the outbound.

Being a team player

You are a team member first and an individual afterward. Whatever you do should be done by keeping the interests of the team and its members in mind. You might be very good in doing something and there might be weaker member in the team at that thing, but they still have a role to play and they might also be very good at doing something which you might not be good at. So i learnt to be a team player.

time management

Time and tide wait for none. A stitch in time saves nine. I used to read these things in books, but i can say now i know the importance of time and more importantly how to manage it more efficiently. We will always overwhelmed with work while we were at outbound which made time management more important.

Enjoying work

As i said we were always loaded with work and if you start thinking about the work as something i have to do and don’t enjoy it, there is a high possibility that you won’t sustain the work for a longer period of time. So i learnt that either do what you like or start enjoying what you do if you want to be efficient.

Diversity

Our class is full of diversity and has people from all walks of life and many parts of india. My roommate is an engineer, the guy living opposite to my room is a doctor, my best friends here include Bcom graduates and BBA people. I interacted a lot with them and got to know a lot more which otherwise would have taken a lot more time to know.

3 Unforgettable Days : Gagan

The perception for outbound proved to be very different from its experience, at least for me. Initially I thought it’s going to be a boring educational trip. But after having its experience now I will say it is an unforgettable experience and I’m blessed one that I was a part of this.
Being a little bit introvert, I take some time to open up but during outbound only in three day I have interacted with a lot of new people and made some good friends. I realized the importance of people with me and at the same time how much important I am with in a team.

The list of learnings is endless having major entries like time management, proper strategy,

stress management,
importance of physical fitness, how to work and take decisions within a team, how to utilize strengths optimally and compensate the weaknesses of team.
How to tackle risks

realized our creativity.

It was a wonderful experiences, full of learnings and a time which can only be experienced.
